Julie May Queen
Born in London, freelance photo artist
Lives and works in Vienna
Through her training as designer, Julie May Queen worked on several ventures in opera houses and theatres at home and abroad. Projects with Christian Ludwig Attersee, Hermann Nitsch, Roman Polanski and Vivienne Westwood have inspired her to transpose her own picture language photographically. Due to her wide education (costume designer - make up artist - designer) Julie May Queen succeeds in capturing the zeitgeist in a complex multilayer way. She uses photography to realise innovative perceptions and notions beyond conventional categories of composition.
Over the last few years Julie May Queen produced numerous works and series, which have been exhibited in the gallery Leu in Munich since 2004. In her recent photo project which attempts to inspect the notion of the single and its interdependency with the surrounding space, personalities like David.J.Goldberg, Edwin Moses, Sir Paul Nurse, David Rosen, Dr.Andreas Salcher, Alan M. Webber and others, play an important part.
